NRC 2025 Awards

Being part of the journey alongside two outstanding Māori organisations in Te Tai Tokerau, and attending the NRC 2025 Awards with them, was a truly inspiring experience. It was a privilege to witness their achievements firsthand and see the lasting positive impact they continue to create within their communities and beyond.

Environmental Action in Business

This award recognises businesses — individual or collective — that show a commitment to the sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of native ecosystems.

» Tū Mai Rā Energy Northland

Tū Mai Rā Energy is a Māori-owned solar power company dedicated to benefiting communities in an environmentally sustainable way. Their forward-thinking business model not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also strengthens climate resilience and community preparedness for natural hazards — particularly benefiting remote communities. The company has equipped numerous marae with solar panels and battery backup, and is now doing the same for 40 homes in Te Kao. Tū Mai Rā Energy also creates employment and upskilling opportunities for locals, bringing further benefits to the community.

NAWIC Te Tai Tokerau

NAWIC is a nationwide community of women championing diversity, equity, and inclusion across Aotearoa New Zealand's construction sector. NAWIC connects, educates, and advocates so women can thrive — from apprentices to executives. With 14 branches around the country, NAWIC offers opportunities to connect, learn, and grow alongside like-minded women. From local events and mentoring to national initiatives and advocacy, our community celebrates success, shares knowledge, and works together to build a stronger, more inclusive future for construction.

Over the past year, our branch has come alive through site visits, gatherings, and shared experiences that have strengthened our relationships and deepened our purpose. 2025 NAWIC Excellence Awards

The 2025 NAWIC Excellence Awards, held in partnership with Naylor Love, brought together over 600 people to celebrate the wāhine shaping the future of construction in Aotearoa. From apprentices and students to site leaders and industry trailblazers, the event honoured those breaking barriers, lifting others, and redefining what's possible.

Kimalana Moana Phelan was named a national finalist for the Helen Tippett Award and received a Special Merit Award — a powerful recognition of her leadership, impact, and commitment to uplifting others in the industry.
